The virtual school population is nearly twice as mobile as the traditional brick-and-mortar population and this plays a role in student outcomes. About the speakers

Allison Bazin
As executive director of public relations for Pearson, Allison Bazin oversees public relations strategy and implementation for K–12 online learning business lines (previously called Connections Education). She joined Connections in 2007 and has been involved with expanding the national conversation around full-time online school ever since — exploring issues from the online school model and efficacy to online school community and accountability. Allison holds a Master of Education from Teachers College, Columbia University and is a member of the Public Relations Society of America.

Amanda Ebel
Amanda Ebel has been in education for more than 15 years. Her teaching career began in 2001 at a brick-and-mortar middle school in Los Angeles, where she taught seventh grade English language arts. In 2009, she became a high school English teacher at South Carolina Connections Academy (SCCA). She went on to serve as the high school principal before being appointed as executive director at SCCA. Amanda is passionate about virtual schooling and believes that all students can learn at the highest levels. She has been recognized with the Outstanding Leadership by an Individual in the Field of Distance Learning award from the United States Distance Learning Association.

Amar Kumar
Amar Kumar leads product and portfolio management for the online & blended learning division at Pearson and is responsible for developing and implementing product/service direction, focusing on efficacy, customer satisfaction, and enhanced user experience. Previously, Amar was part of the team that supported the Pearson Affordable Learning Fund, expanding access to quality education in the world's developing communities. Amar serves as an advisor to education startups Experifun and Sudiksha Knowledge Solutions, and sits on the board of 2 UP Academy Charter Schools. He has an MBA from Harvard University and a B.S. in Computer Science from Purdue University.
