Mike Deschamps, Mira Costa College
Mike Deschamps received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting, graduating from the University of San Diego (USD), where he served as the chapter president for Beta Alpha Psi, the national accounting honor society. He transferred to USD after completing several years at San Diego City College, a California community college, which was where he also began his teaching career as an Associate faculty member.
After working in public accounting and obtaining his CPA license, he returned to San Diego State University to earn a Master’s degree in Taxation and a Certificate in Financial Planning. In addition, he earned his IRS Enrolled Agent certificate in 2004.
He is currently the Business Department Chair at Mira Costa College, and previously was a tenured professor of accounting and financial services at Chaffey College, where he also served as the program coordinator for six years. He is an active member of Teachers of Accounting at Two Year Colleges (TACTYC), and has been a presenter at a number of their national conventions, most recently, the 2018 national convention, where he presented on creating a bookkeeping program leading to professional opportunities and certification. In addition, he is also a member of the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers (AIPB), giving presentations on accounting and tax issues to a variety of organizations.
