In this session, you’ll hear one professor’s story of how he thought his students were coming to class prepared. It was only after he began to assign Revel™ that he realized they had been coasting through his class. We’ll share the ways in which he discovered how his classroom could alive once the students were completing the assignments and quizzes before they came to class.
About the speaker
Professor Michael Cothren
Michael Cothren taught art history at Swarthmore College for 39 years and remains consultative curator of medieval stained glass at the Glencairn Museum (Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania). For decades, his research focused on French Gothic stained glass, especially the windows of the abbey of Saint-Denis and the cathedrals of Beauvais and Rouen. His book on the glazing of Beauvais was published in 2006 by Princeton University Press, and he is currently writing the Corpus Vitrearum catalogue of medieval stained glass in the Glencairn Museum, whose distinguished collection was assembled by Raymond Pitcairn (1885-1966), primarily during the 1920’s and 1930’s. His next research project will focus on a new area of interest: the artists of the Mimbres culture in southwest New Mexico (c. 1000-1150 CE) who painted on the interiors of bowls.
