Which topics do the posters address?
We have provided 6 revision support posters which address the following topics:
Topics new to Foundation tier (2 posters)
The Foundation tier posters cover content that would previously have been in the Higher tier in the old specification. The content is therefore not necessarily new to GCSE, but new to the Foundation tier.
Topics new to Higher tier (2 posters)
The ‘New Common Content to Foundation and Higher tier’ posters cover new content to GCSE (9-1) Maths that is present on both tiers. This is content not previously covered in old GCSE specifications.
Topics new to both Foundation and Higher tier (2 posters)
The Higher tier posters cover content that is new to GCSE (9-1) Maths on the Higher tier only. This is also content not previously covered in old GCSE specifications.
The posters focus on the new content areas as we are aware that these are areas that students find the most challenging or are areas where teachers would like further exemplification on.
The new topic areas are broadly assessed at the top end of each tier and therefore will have a focus for those in Foundation tier aiming to achieve a grade 4 or above, and for those working in the Higher tier, aiming to achieve a grade 7 or above.
Within each poster the content is designed to give the fundamental revision points for these topic areas. As a revision guide, it will naturally not cover every aspect of the topic in fine detail but gives information on key revision points and annotated practical examples of how the content may be assessed. In some content areas (especially for the Higher tier posters) some prior knowledge is assumed.
Where does the poster content come from?
The content within each poster has been primarily taken from our Pearson Revision Cards and Revision Bootcamp books and have been further developed with additional guidance to select appropriate, relevant and useful content on these areas.
What do the teacher guides contain?
The teacher guide contains, for each new topic, examples of how we have assessed the area in previous assessments (from June 2017 up to November 2019), key comments from the examiner reports on that topic, including common misconceptions and most common incorrect answers, as well as item level statistics to show how the question performed in those assessments. These content areas are also covered in the Pearson Revise Posters.
