We recognise the importance of inspiring a love of reading and writing for pleasure. Our innovative and engaging approaches are equipping learners with the language, reading and writing skills they need to do so.
Across the country, we’ve been hearing calls from secondary teachers for English content that’s real and relevant; for texts and tasks that students can relate to and want to engage with.
In this new video series, we’ve brought together English practitioners, sector leaders, students and influencers to share their views and top tips on what we can collectively do to spark engagement in English classrooms across the UK.
Winners announced! Find out who won the fourth edition of our popular and FREE writing competition, and read all the wonderful winning stories.
Picking the final 19 winners was no easy task, as we and the judges were blown away by the brilliant range of imaginative and thought-provoking stories and poems. Entries ranged from personal reflections on the experience of transitioning to stories of refugees with super-hero powers and hard-hitting commentaries on media representation.
We're sure you'll agree all the winners have done a fantastic job. Congratulations!
Research has revealed time and time again that reading for pleasure supports our young learners to become better readers, and is integral in fostering life skills. What's more, reading for just 10 minutes every day can improve your mental wellbeing.

We want children to feel represented in the literature that they read. That's why we're promoting the exposure of young readers to a wide range of characters, voices and themes that they can engage with, enjoy and be inspired by in order to read further and to develop their own voices.
