Student Diversity Ambassador Programme

The Pearson Student Diversity Ambassador Programme will support a student-centered approach, learning from students' diverse perspectives and experiences to help shape the products and services we offer now and in the future.   

This programme is part of our commitment to ensuring equity and opportunity for all learners and that our educational products and services authentically represent the rich diversity of the students we serve. We are also committed to working together with schools to build a more inclusive education for all students.  

Each academic year, students from across the UK will apply to be Student Ambassadors and take part in the programme, with the involvement and approval of their school. These students will come from different schools across the country who choose to partner with Pearson in this programme. It is our intention that this will become a Global Student Diversity Ambassador Programme in the future.  

The Student Ambassadors will range in age from 14-17 years old and will represent a diverse range of characteristics across gender identity, race, ethnicity, socio-economic background, and special education needs. 

• Theme feedback: Each term, the Student Ambassadors will need to respond to and give feedback on a set theme that we will provide. This will be accompanied by a briefing document that will include a range of questions for students to reflect on as part of their research.        

Task: The Student Ambassadors will work with their peers from within their school to gather feedback in response to the theme and will then report their findings and insight back to Pearson School Qualifications colleagues in a PowerPoint presentation on a termly basis. Students can conduct their own surveys, set up focus groups, or initiate any other form of research gathering that they would like. 

• Session attendance: During the academic school year for which the programme is running, Student Ambassadors will be asked to attend around three interactions (roughly one per term).  

Task: Student Ambassadors will need to participate in/attend all these sessions with the Pearson team. These interactions can include feedback sessions, career development events, guest speaker events, ad-hoc product/service focus groups, etc.  

• Optional surveys and focus groups: To ensure we are developing the best products and services to meet student needs; we would like to ask the Student Ambassadors to provide occasional feedback on new projects we are working on. 

Task: Student Ambassadors can choose to get involved in providing feedback by participating in online surveys, Microsoft Teams meetings, and focus groups.   

As well as the opportunity to have their voices heard and shape the work we are doing, students will benefit from the following:   

• Work experience: Student Ambassadors can choose to take part in a 2-week work experience at Pearson where they will learn how a large, corporate organisation operates as well as get the chance to work with Pearson staff from various departments.
• Career development: Student Ambassadors will be able to attend monthly virtual training sessions run by various Pearson employees who will teach the Ambassadors about various departments within a business, including Finance, Marketing, Product Development and Sales, and what steps and experiences they need to take in order to get into those career fields.  
• Develop soft skills and employability skills: The Student Ambassadors will be representing their own views and the views of their peers. The programme will give them the opportunity to present findings, attend meetings and provide feedback and thus an opportunity to improve their communication and presentation skills.  
• Mentoring: The Student Ambassadors will have the option to have a Pearson mentor assigned to them to support them through their learning journey.  
  

• Safeguarding: Teachers should liaise with parents to ensure the Student Ambassadors have permission to participate in feedback sessions, virtual meetings, focus groups, etc. This may involve acquiring written consent via permission slips. The Pearson team also have a Safeguarding policy in place to ensure all Student Ambassadors are protected.  
• Supervising: We ask that teachers attend all virtual sessions with the Student Ambassadors to mediate any technological issues that may arise and to monitor the Student Ambassadors’ participation. 
• Supporting Student Ambassadors: Serve as a point of contact between Pearson and the Student Ambassadors and be sure to pass on all relevant information and opportunities to them.
