What are your hopes for school this year: a chance to share your views
After more than a year of tough educational challenges, what’s the impact on how teachers and pupils feel about school? To find out, we’re reflecting on our recent research and asking for your thoughts.
What our research is saying so far...
In a recent survey of primary and secondary teachers, 46% saw enjoyment of school increase for their pupils after the third national lockdown.
Meanwhile, in our latest Global Learner Survey, which recorded the views of learners in the UK, Brazil, China and the US, almost three out of four respondents felt individuals had become more caring to each other in the pandemic, while 68% of students saw more value in their education than ever before.
It’s great to see that more and more pupils are growing to love school after lockdowns, especially after many of us have experienced what life is like without physical access to them. For many, school is a sanctuary: a stable place offering free expression, fulfilling connections, and – of course – the opportunity to empower each other with knowledge. The space and support that schools provide also allow spontaneity, growth, and discovery. We are social creatures, after all – often working at our best when we work together.
We’ve always been inspired by all the ways teachers enable their pupils to thrive, and this has continued to be the case during the pandemic, especially with how educators are navigating its impact on their learners. In the aforementioned survey of primary teachers, more than one in two stated that building student confidence, and addressing mental health/wellbeing needs, were their priorities. We’re committed to supporting educators and the wider school community in creating healthy, happy schools and you can find free resources and guidance in The Wellbeing Zone.
