I was introduced to dancing at the age of five. When I was about six or seven a teacher said to me: 'Come and dance for the company'. I started dancing folk dance. After, I scouted for places to study performing arts. Then, I found Northlink College.

This Peforming Arts BTEC course gives people from Northlink College - and people all over the world - more advances at practical work than at theory work. When my students perform on stages outside of college, those watching can see these advances.

I'm a senior dance lecturer, and it's been brilliant for me because each year I've learned. That's the great thing about a BTEC course. You learn from your students and they feed off you. I am so humbled to be an inspiration to them.

If you have a passion, if passion drives you, if the determination is there, and if it's your heart that wants you to go there, then you have to just go and study performing arts.

This is what happened to me: It was in June 2012. I got a phone call from the campus manager of Northlink College. I came into the office and at that time I thought I was going to be in trouble! She told me, 'Look, here, you won the BTEC international Award.' I felt so overwhelmed. It didn't sink in.

I flew to London and I won the award! Flew to London, won the award, and still it did not sink in. Just a year afterwards, Northlink College gave me a full-time teaching position at the college.

I've gained so much experience from my mentors, from people in the industry. I've started with writing my own scripts, and directing shows, running workshops to rural communities, going to areas like safe houses to teach children because it's my passion.

I started my own production studio and I ask students to play in these productions. Two years after that, I started Zoutman Dance Company, so I have two companies now! Suddenly, people are interested in my work. It's such an inspiration.

When I come in here and I see my students, I always say, 'I'm not here for my work. I'm here to inspire the young artists. To inspire myself, and through me they can learn, grow, give, and gain.'

I'm not going to leave education, because I can see teachers and learners appreciate what I'm giving.

My life highlights include winning best script, moving in and out of Cape Town, teaching other people, going to Baxter Theatre, and dancing my heart out. Do you know what's the highlight of my career? I work hard, and then each year the exams come, I can see the work that I've put in, and that is why I'm not going to leave education, because I can see teachers and learners appreciate what I'm giving.

In the future, I would like to be on a soapy. Then, I would like to go to London, study further, get my doctor's degree, and I'd like to teach in London.
