Independent Curriculum and Assessment Review

Government has today launched the independent Curriculum and Assessment Review chaired by Professor Becky Francis CBE and to span KS1 to KS5.

Following the review, all state schools – including academies who currently do not have to follow the national curriculum – will be required by law to teach the national curriculum up to age 16.

It will look at ensuring all 16-19s prepared for the changing workplace. But it will not involve a pause and review of current level 3 defunding reforms which is being considered separately. It will also work to ensure coherence with future decision-making on post-16 education strategy.

The Review will publish an interim report early in 2025 setting out interim findings and confirming the key areas for further work, and plan to publish the final review with recommendations in Autumn 2025.
