Assessing and tracking students effectively
Dr James Fowler talks about his course titled Introduction to Management, which serves as an essential first-year undergraduate course. It utilises MyLab extensively both for assessment purposes and as a repository for source materials, enabling students to delve deeper into lecture content or revise covered material. They have created a hybrid MyLab system.
Collaboration with Pearson began several years ago, initially utilising two books on Management and Marketing to support an older dual-module course. This partnership evolved through extensive course mapping and adjustments to align better with the now single-module management course. Over time, this collaboration has smoothed out the integration of MyLab, particularly in assessments, where Pearson's support has been invaluable. The system's functionality allows the instructor to handle many aspects independently.
The impact of MyLab on the course and its administration has been significant. It provides students with anytime access to core materials, facilitating more effective self-revision and independent assessment through a scoring system. The system also simplifies the workload for instructors, particularly through an efficient assessment process. Customising the materials involved creating a hybrid composite book from selected chapters, further tailored to the course's needs. The platform’s adoption became crucial during the pandemic, expediting its integration to ensure the continuity of remote learning. MyLab’s interactive and modern features have met the course's objectives, enhancing both teaching and learning experiences.
