Using news articles as a resource for applying theoretical knowledge
A lecturer of a course in International Economics at the University of Pecs in Hungary shares their experience of using MyLab Economics for a semester.
The course consisted of four 90 minute lectures and 90 minute seminars a week. The goal was to provide general theoretical knowledge surrounding the international aspect of economics to students.
Students could receive additional consultation during office hours as well as the opportunity to use MyLab, to practice on their own. During classes, quizzes were to test students’ preliminary knowledge of the topic. Students worked through case studies and news articles during group work. These activities were credited in final grades and communicated throughout the semester.
Motivated students were excited about using MyLab and were really engaged. They saw the opportunity and benefits of using the study plan and all the features.
According to the lecturer, the news articles and case studies were really valuable. He found that his students could apply the theoretical knowledge through these resources, which made the course much more enjoyable.
