Exploring Strategy Workshop 2018: teaching tips and talking points
Network with the author team behind Exploring Strategy and Fundamentals of Strategy and with fellow business lecturers in London at Pearson’s annual teaching workshop on 18 June 2018.
“I've been coming here to the strategy workshop for nearly 20 years and I always get so much from the event.”
- Lecturer, Institute of Technology Tralee
Reflect on the past year and prepare for the next
Join other lecturers to reflect on achievements and best practice from the closing academic year, and to swap ideas on ways to develop teaching and learning in the next.
This annual Exploring Strategy workshop is hosted by Pearson and led by the author team Gerry Johnson (Lancaster University School of Management), Richard Whittington (University of Oxford), Patrick Regnér (Stockholm School of Economics) and Duncan Angwin (Oxford Brookes University).
Workshop agenda
At this event you'll have the opportunity to hear from the authors on teaching tips, both linking to the text and to the case studies.
You'll also hear from case study authors such as Clive Kerridge (Aston University) on how to research and write your own cases. There will be a special focus on specific examples, particularly the Airbnb and Handelsbanken cases.
If you missed last year's event or want to refresh your memory, you can review case study presentations like this one from last year's workshop on YouTube.
Both Exploring Strategy and Fundamentals of Strategy texts come with many complimentary resources such as PowerPoint slides, instructor manuals and a companion website to make lecture planning easier. Author Duncan Angwin will show you how to use the instructor manual for cases.
Download resources now for Exploring Strategy: Text and Cases 11/e and Fundamentals of Strategy 4/e.
Network with attendees and workshop leaders over lunch, and then hear from fellow lecturer Sarah Owens from Swansea University on how she has used interactive learning environment Revel in her strategy teaching, and what results her teaching team have experienced.
This video walks you through Revel for Exploring Strategy - how it brings together textbook content with interactive features, and the benefits that it offers you and your students.
After this presentation, there will follow sessions on research teaching tips, entrepreneurial strategy and opening strategy, led by the authors.
The day will close with a swap shop, an informal session where attendees can share teaching approaches and resources on any aspect of strategy teaching.
