This year we are releasing BTEC level 3 nationals, and BTEC level 2 firsts, technicals and tech awards (2016) under embargo a week earlier to schools and colleges.

We encourage you to use this time to check the completeness of your results, and to contact us immediately if you need any support over this time.

So that you can easily access your results, we are also sending your BTEC level 3 results to Exams Officer and Head of Centre Edexcel Online mailboxes.

We also wanted to ask you to take extra care this week when managing results, to only issue BTEC level 3 nationals to learners on 17 August. BTEC level 2 results should NOT be issued to learners until the official results day on 24 August.

If any of your learners have not received a result and they are expecting one, you should contact us immediately through the Pearson support portal or on 0344 463 2535. 

Once released under embargo, your results are available on Edexcel Online for exams officers and heads of centres to view. Alongside your results, we will also send grade boundaries as a file to your exams officer’s Edexcel Online mailbox.

If you have sent us a 7B file, we’ll also send you your overall BTEC results as an EDI file via the A2C application. If you haven’t sent us a 7B file but would like your results sent as an EDI file, you should send this to us immediately.

We recently introduced multi-factor authentication as an additional security measure to protect your centre and learner data. If you haven’t logged in to Edexcel Online in a while, you should log in to ensure you can access Edexcel Online using multi-factor authentication and view your results.

Ofqual set out their plans for awarding qualifications in 2023 and to return to a normal, pre-pandemic approach to grading this summer for A levels, AS levels and GCSEs, as well as for vocational qualifications. You can read Ofqual’s blog on vocational and technical grading in 2023. Our guiding principle and approach to awarding BTEC qualification results in 2023 is to return to pre-pandemic performance standards, but with checks and balances that allow us to be sensitive to the disruption learners have faced, just as for A levels and GCSEs. We aim to ensure learners are not advantaged or disadvantaged, as far as possible, compared to those studying for GCSEs and A levels.

We also know that over the last few years, more learners are now completing the RQF BTEC nationals, and centres have transitioned over from the legacy QCF. This means results distributions are not comparable to 2019.

Although we are releasing results earlier this year, you will only be able to submit post-results requests on the official learner results day. This is because you need written learner consent before submitting a post results request, as grades can go up, down or stay the same.

If you are not happy with the outcome of a post-results service, you may look to appeal. You can find out more about appeals on our website, and access our BTEC appeals decision tree. 

Results for the May/June series will be issued to centres on 23 August and can be released to learners on the 24 August. You can access the final moderator reports (on Edexcel Online), which include feedback on your marking, and you’ll be able to download Principal Moderator reports from the relevant subject qualification pages, detailing outcomes of the series overall and giving helpful guidance for future series.

If you have concerns about your results having reviewed your moderator report and final marks, you can request a review of moderation (Service 3) (RoM) from results day until 28 September. Post-results service requests cannot be submitted until all learners have received their results.
