Information technology (IT) or information and communications technology (ICT) underpin much of what we do in the modern world. A career in IT could lead you to work in almost any sector. IT systems make other work possible.
You can work with hardware IT systems or software applications, either behind the scenes or dealing directly with IT users.
IT is more than just computers. It can include networks, software, apps, phone systems, complex printers, web-conferencing equipment, projectors and interactive whiteboards.

- IT jobs are almost always office-based.
- If you are involved in fixing IT systems, you may be expected to work until the problem is fixed. Hours are not always 9 to 5
