Large organisations have graduate programmes. Once you have completed your training, you could be managing a large team of staff, budgeting and working on business development.
You will be doing longer-term planning as well as day-to-day management. The work is unpredictable and involves lots of problem solving. You may be training staff or advising companies on their security.

Qualifications needed
To be accepted on the prison governor graduate scheme, you need a good degree, which could be in any subject. You need to show leadership and problem solving ability. For other jobs, your experience is as important as your qualifications. Many employers like to promote people from within the organisation. Graduates with appropriate degrees can apply to join MI5 - for example as an intelligence officer or computer and network forensic specialist.
Career path
Junior managers can progress to more senior management roles. You may choose to work for another company to broaden your experience or for a promotion. Prison governors can govern larger prisons and then become area managers.
As a nurse, you can take on more senior roles, including management. You could decide to move into working in a school, company, prison or in the armed forces. Doctors can specialise, become more senior (for example, becoming a consultant) or move into management. They can also work elsewhere, including in private practice.
