For courses in Organizational Behaviour.
A streamlined presentation of key organizational behavior concepts
Essentials of Organizational Behaviour was created as an alternative to the usual comprehensive textbook in organizational behaviour (OB). It attempts to provide balanced coverage of all the key elements making up the discipline of OB in a style that readers will find both informative and interesting. We're pleased to say that this learning resource has achieved a wide following in short courses and executive programs and in traditional courses as a companion volume with experiential, skill development, case, and readings books.
Hallmark features of this title
- Examples throughout Essentials of Organizational Behaviour reflect balanced coverage of contemporary Canadian issues such as the implementation of multicultural ideals; reconciliation with Indigenous peoples; privilege and non-conscious bias; equity and inclusion of vulnerable workers, including recently arrived immigrants, people with disabilities, and transgender employees; best practices for addressing sexual harassment and toxic organizational cultures; emerging standards for psychologically safe workplaces; and insights gained from recent human rights tribunal decisions.
- First Nations, Métis, and Inuit perspectives and examples are included throughout, particularly in the chapters discussing diversity, work attitudes, leadership, organizational culture, and motivation. An Indigenous content contributor provided feedback on sections of chapters 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 11 to ensure that content related to Indigenous communities in Canada is accurate and respectful.
- The experiences and varied perspectives of immigrant workers are reflected in pervasive examples, particularly in chapters discussing diversity, work attitudes, organizational culture, and motivation.
New and updated features of this title
- New video and podcasts have been added to each chapter. Video assignments illustrate key concepts from the text and provide important application opportunities. With podcast assignments, students listen to a highly engaging podcast and then answer questions about the organizational behaviour principles covered within. Auto-scored assessments for both save instructors valuable time in grading assignments.
- The total number of chapters has been reduced from 17 to 14 in order to better fit into a typical semester. Previously separate chapters on motivational theory and applied motivation have been consolidated, allowing students to more clearly see the linkages between theory and practice. Emotions and moods are now addressed in the same chapter as work attitudes and stress to better highlight the complex interlinkages between them.
- Statistical data, such as labour force participation rates and average earnings, have been updated throughout the text.
- New material on toxic and innovative organizational cultures has been added. Content that translates theory into applied managerial practice has been updated and significantly enhanced in multiple chapters.

This provides students with a personalized learning experience and the opportunity to build and develop their critical-thinking skills.
