About our authors

Mary Ellen Scullen, for many years, has taught French language, culture and linguistics, as well as coordinated the basic French language program at the University of Maryland, College Park. She was named Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Palmes académiques of France.

Cathy Pons is Professor Emerita in the Department of Languages and Literatures at the University of North Carolina at Asheville. She is a past president of the Foreign Language Association of North Carolina. She is coauthor with Scullen and Valdman on 2 editions of Points de départ.

Albert Valdman held the posts of president of the American Association of Teachers of French and of the International Association of Applied Linguistics. He was named Commandeur dans l'Ordre des Palmes académiques of France and was awarded the Médaille d'Or du Mérite Francophone by Renaissance Française.
