In acknowledgement of Canada's Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Call to Action #92, Pearson Canada’s Product Team has adopted the “Nothing About Us Without Us” strategy which aims to provide a variety of truthful and valid perspectives in the content that we help to create to include and encompass all who are reading or engaging with our material.
Since 2020, Pearson has worked with Indigenous Subject Matter Experts to include Indigenous Perspectives and to feature stories, businesses and teachings in our texts.
In accounting, we are currently creating cases based on Indigenous business, community, and financial considerations. These cases will relate to learning objectives found within discipline-specific accounting texts and we will provide instructor teaching notes, rubric and auto-grading where possible through MyLab.
These cases will be available for Managerial Accounting in MyLab starting in Fall 2023. These cases are being authored by Dr. Russell Evans (Assistant Professor, Odette School of Business, University of Windsor) from Temagami First Nation.
We hope to be able to provide Indigenous cases for Introductory, Financial, and Taxation by early 2024. These cases are being written by Indigenous subject matter experts and accountants and it is our goal to be able to engage educators and students at a deeper level and to promote learning around Indigenous issues and regulations as they relate to the accounting discipline while continuing Pearson’s own allyship with Indigenous communities across Canada.
