Workshop overview
Accuracy, fluency and comprehension are the key components of an effective reading assessment.
This workshop offers an accessible and engaging professional learning experience, designed and facilitated by experts. Participants will thoroughly examine the Benchmark Assessment System and explore how to utilise the system to accurately benchmark students and design effective literacy instruction that meets the needs of all students.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this workshop, participants should:
- Understand the importance of benchmarking students’ reading and literacy skills.
- Understand how the Benchmark Assessment System and The Fountas & Pinnell Literacy Continuum support literacy learning as defined by state and national English curricula.
- Be able to effectively conduct a full benchmark assessment and analysis, including the use of optional assessments, and use the results to inform instruction.
- Understand the key considerations, roles and responsibilities required to effectively implement the Benchmark Assessment System.
Prerequisites
All participants should prepare for this workshop by familiarising themselves with the components in the system(s) they will be using, as the workshop does not include a product unpack.

Target Audience
Educators from schools where the Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System has recently been adopted, or who have joined a school where it is already in use.
Please note that this workshop is not suitable for educators who are in the process of assessing whether the Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System is the best resource for their school.
