ActiveLearn Primary combines engaging F-6 reading resources into a single accessible online learning hub. With just one login you can cover your reading needs from home or the classroom with:
- Bug Club: nearly 400 levelled readers, plays, comics and graphic novels featuring much-loved characters from film and TV for modelled, guided, independent and take-home reading.
- Bug Club Phonics: combines a teaching program with over 200 decodable readers, interactive assessments and fun games to deliver effective explicit teaching of synthetic phonics.
- Rapid Phonics and Rapid Reading: over 200 age-appropriate eBooks to help struggling readers catch up and build their confidence.
I would recommend ActiveLearn Primary to all lower year's primary teachers looking for a high quality, affordable reading and phonics resource to support differentiated classroom practice. We love the range and organisation of the phonics texts that make it really easy to navigate and select an appropriate text to match the learning focus. The students love being able to read bright, engaging, varied texts. They also enjoy being able to access a breadth of quality phonics-based interactive tasks to support their decoding and encoding skills

ActiveLearn Primary for educators
For educators, ActiveLearn Primary is used to:
- search for and filter by phonic phase, stage and set or by reading levels
- display books on interactive whiteboards
- allocate books to individual students, groups or the class (with or without audio and quizzes)
- track and report on students’ reading progress based on completion of books and quizzes
- select audio narration to help lower levels with pronunciation and fluency when students are reading independently
- access a giant repository of teaching materials.

Bug Club
Bug Club supports the effective and engaging teaching of reading for students in Foundation to Year 6. Every step is reinforced with teaching tools to support modelled whole class reading, guided reading, independent and take-home reading. With Bug Club on ActiveLearn Primary you can:
- search for and filter nearly 400 books by book band, reading level or Fountas & Pinnell level
- find 65 plays broadly aligned to Reading Levels 5-30 where students can also choose to be a character and the audio for that character does not play
- track and report on students’ reading progress based on completion of books and comprehension quizzes
- view and download guided reading notes and blackline masters, curriculum correlation and scope and sequence charts to help with planning, and more.

Rapid is a complete intervention solution for struggling readers who are working behind age-related expectations as well as students with special educational needs.
Rapid Reading is an intervention solution for struggling readers and for students with special education needs. It works by sparking their interest and making reading fun.
Rapid Reading on ActiveLearn Primary includes:
- 320 fiction and non-fiction decodable readers based on reading stages or age with dyslexia-friendly design and fonts
- text starters before reading the eBook
- quizzes reinforce reading activities that are geared towards success.
Rapid Reading also features:
- a Read to me function to demonstrate fluent reading and hook students into the text
- some audio-only instructions to make activities less intimidating and difficult
- audio prompts for individual words to ensure students don't get stuck
- highlighted words or sentences to improve comprehension

How do the subscriptions work?
Let’s be honest, things always change. That’s why ActiveLearn Primary subscriptions are based on bands of students who will be accessing the platform. This gives you some flexibility for when student numbers change and ensures your students always have the access they need to keep learning.

Can I buy print and digital combined?
Yes, you can buy any combination of print titles, plus a digital subscription to suit your school. For instance, you could purchase Bug Club print books as a level value pack and then a digital subscription to all Bug Club books based on the number of students requiring access.

Why do I need printed books?
For young children especially, physical printed books can be useful for developing fine motor skills and for understanding reading conventions, such as holding a book, turning pages and reading from left to right. They can also be useful when technology is not prevalent in the home or for guided reading sessions in the classroom.

We mainly use print books in our school. How can I access the digital teaching resources to support Bug Club?
A teacher-only subscription lets teachers access all the ActiveLearn Primary guided reading notes and Blackline Masters. Books can also be displayed on an interactive whiteboard or screen for whole class modelling or guided reading sessions.

What devices does ActiveLearn work on?
ActiveLearn Primary works on Mac and PC computers and iPad and Android tablets.
It is not recommended for mobile phones as the screen size does not provide an optimum reading experience.

We tend not to recommend ActiveLearn Primary for mobile phones as the screen size is not optimal for reading.
