At Pearson Australia, our team of content and learning specialists have been developing Australian Curriculum resources for over a decade and the newest iteration, Version 9.0, is no different. We are eager to help schools as they prepare, navigate and adapt to the new Australian Curriculum Version 9.0 in the coming years.

How the Curriculum is Changing

The Australian Curriculum Version 9.0 is three-dimensional, including:

• learning areas

• general capabilities

• cross-curriculum priorities.

These three categories set out ‘essential knowledge, understanding and skills all young Australians need so they will be able to learn, contribute and shape their world now and in the future.’

Implementation Timelines for Version 9.0

In May 2022, after a program of research and a 10-week public consultation process, the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) released Version 9.0 of the Australian Curriculum for implementation by schools nationwide, starting from 2023. In terms of implementation timelines, below is a snapshot, at the time of writing, of how each state and territory has responded to the announcement of the Australian Curriculum Version 9.0.

Pearson Australia is closely following state and territory announcements to ensure that teachers, wherever they are located, are equipped to transition to Version 9.0.

As the different states and territories assess Version 9.0, they will determine the nature of professional learning and other support they will provide for teachers. In addition, ACARA will continue to develop and publish a range of work samples, illustrations of practices and other resources on its new website to support teachers to implement Version 9.0.

How Pearson Australia Can Help Teachers Implementing Version 9.0

We are acutely aware of the strain a new curriculum can put on teachers in terms of important considerations like:

• learning about the intent behind the change, all while still delivering engaging classroom experience for their students

• updating existing programming and resources

• choosing and becoming acquainted with new resources

Among numerous other considerations, it can really take its toll. To help support educators through these challenges, Pearson Australia has taken action:

• We have created new resources tailored specifically to Version 9.0. This holds true across much of our subject portfolio for Kindergarten through to Year 10.

• Our team of authors, content and learning specialists, and product managers have worked with teachers from across Australia to ensure the resources we’ve developed not only meet the new curriculum standards, but also that they make it easier for teachers to transition to the new curriculum. This is done by providing resources that encourage flexibility in how they want to teach, with many visual and interactive elements to further engage students.

• By using Pearson products, teachers gain access to a wide variety of support materials to help them implement the new curriculum. This includes personal support from our portfolio managers as well as built-in product support like curriculum mapping documentation, teacher programming and differentiation features.

We provide this support to minimise teachers’ concerns so they can focus on teaching. As an organisation dedicated to creating vibrant and enriching learning experiences designed for real-life impact, we know and value the importance of teachers to that goal. As your school navigates the complexity of Version 9.0, feel free to reach out to a Pearson representative in your state. Be it arranging a demo or providing samples, they will keenly guide you through the transition.
