So, the first thing is what is mosaic determination? That is cells that develop independent of the environment. So those cells have already decided what they're going to become, and it doesn't matter what happens around them or what environment they're in, those cells are always going to become those cells. So in that situation, it's much less flexible. And so in a if a one of those cells gets damaged, there's nothing that's going to come and help repair it. There's nothing that's going to replace whatever that was going to become. It's just that the adult organism loses whatever that cell was going to become. So if one of those cells is damaged in an organism that has this really flexible determination system, the offspring loses whatever that cell was going to become and if that cell was going to become an important organ, that organism develops without that organ. So the offspring produced in this situation will often develop abnormally because they're missing one of those really important organs or cell types or something that the that embryonic cell was going to become before it became damaged.
