Hello everyone here's our next problem. Select the correct answer. Related to the characteristics of an enzyme. So let's look through our choices here. Choice A. Says it increases the activation energy of a reaction. Well that is not correct. Um How an enzyme mainly works to catalyze reactions is by decreasing the activation energy, thereby making the rate of reaction higher. Making the chemical reaction proceed more quickly. Choice B says it accelerates chemical reactions by undergoing chemical modifications. Well, it is correct that an enzyme accelerates a chemical reaction but enzymes do not have any modification due to the reaction they catalyze so they are unchanged at the end of the chemical reaction. So Choice B. Is incorrect. Although it does increase the rate of chemical reaction, it does not undergo any chemical modifications. Choice C says it gets consumed during a chemical reaction. Well that is not correct. As we discussed, the enzyme does not have any chemical modifications and it does not get consumed. The amount of enzyme stays the same because it's just helping to has its active site where the substrate binds the chemical reaction proceeds but the enzyme remains unchanged in the end. If it got consumed during the chemical reaction it would be a reactant. Not a catalyst. So Choice C. Not correct. So we're left with choice D. It has an active site that takes part in metabolic reactions. Yes that is correct. It's active site takes part in the reaction but in the end is unchanged and not consumed. So characteristic of an enzyme. Choice D. Has an active site that takes part in metabolic reactions, join us for the next video.
