So there's a bunch of different things. Just imagine it as tagging proteins, and that tag will tell them what to do or where to do it. That is post translational modification. Now this particular form of modification is reversible, meaning the tag can be put on and it can be taken off. And this particular tag, when on or off, is going to activate or deactivate that protein depending on which protein it is. Do you remember what type of modification this is? Remember that this is going to be phosphorylation.
