Pearson methodology for English Language Teaching
As a teacher, you often wonder: what’s the most important thing for your pupils or students when they’re learning English? In the end, it’s not about grades; it’s about being able to use the language and feel confident when doing so. Your students want to be able to understand and speak English, read texts, and write about topics that interest them, so they can build new contacts in English. In short, they want to communicate. A good English Language Teaching (ELT) course ensures that they can do all of the above.
Communicative approach
Pearson’s methodology is based on the idea that learning a language is more effective when students are confronted with realistic situations, allowing them to practise the language properly. An English lesson using a Pearson course puts the emphasis on communication, ensuring that your students not only learn effectively, but that they also have fun at the same time.
Authentic material
It is important that the material is as authentic as it is communicative . It takes a lot of time to create teaching material, but Pearson is here to help! Pearson ELT courses contain a wide range of challenging, original material for watching, listening and reading.
Monolingual classroom
When you create an English environment in your classroom using authentic and communicative material, your students are more likely to use the language. In addition, they will be more motivated and they will become familiar with the language more quickly. They will learn to communicate more effectively and efficiently. It’s all about learning skills, not boring translations or learning vocabulary out of context. It’s about using language.
21st-Century Skills
A good ELT course goes beyond a traditional language class. The current generation of secondary-school students needs to learn the skills that will allow them to communicate effectively in a rapidly changing society. Skills such as media literacy and awareness of other countries and cultures are key to acquiring other 21st-century skills, including collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving and digital literacy.
