Global Scale of English (GSE)

The Global Scale of English is a standardized, granular scale from 10 to 90, which measures English language proficiency. Unlike other frameworks, which describe attainment in broad bands, the Global Scale of English identifies what a learner can do at each point on the scale across speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. Teacher’s Edition	Easy-to-use, step-by-step lesson planning with a clear Unit Planner at the start of every unit Answer keys and suggested answers for the Student Edition strategies for differentiated instruction Readings accompanied by scaffolding, tips, study skills activities, and suggestions for how to approach the reading strategy Tips on how to teach phonics and fluency Guidance on analyzing language, awareness of cognates, and English language insights All Teacher’s Editions come with access to the Pearson English Portal
Teacher’s Resource Book	Resources to help with planning and instruction, including: Lesson plans : Suggestions for how to divide up the material provided in the program into lessons. These pull together tasks in the Student Edition, Teacher’s Edition, Assessment Book, Workbook, various worksheets and Teacher's Resource Book. There are also ideas for homework. Workbook answer keys : Answer keys for activities with clear-cut answers and suggestions for questions with various possible answers. Letters home : Prewritten letters to parents in English only. These describe to parents what children will be learning in the unit to allow parents to become involved in their child’s learning. Reading text summaries : Summaries of the reading texts found in the Student Edition in English only. Graphic Organizer templates : These are a variety of worksheet templates for children to complete such as KWL chart, Venn diagram, 5W chart and T-chart. Handwriting practice worksheets (lower grades) : Handwriting worksheets offer photocopiable pages which children can write on to practice letter formation and mark marking. These are provided in lower grades. Fluency (upper grades) : Fluency activities are provided in the upper grades. These are a selection of activities that teachers can use to improve children’s fluency such as reading aloud from a newspaper, role plays, etc. There are suggestions to use with every unit. Many activity task types repeat.
