Three Flashes or Below Threshold - Success Criterion 2.3.1 (Level A)

Pearson requirements restrict the use of flashing content beyond what is outlined in the WCAG guidelines.

Have you ensured that your site or application does not contain flashing content?

Why is this important?

Content that flashes can trigger seizures in users who suffer from photosensitive epileptic seizures. Flashing content may also be a serious distraction for learners with cognitive or learning disabilities.

Whom does it benefit?

Example 1

As a person with epilepsy,
I want content that does not flash
so that I can access the information without the risk of triggering a seizure.

Example 2

As a student with an attention deficit disorder,
I want information presented without unnecessary distractions
so that I can concentrate and focus on my assignment.

What should you do?

Pearson guidelines restrict the use of any flashing content. Do not design content that flashes.

How do you do it?

Flashing content should not be used. If it already exists, remove the flashing content and replace with non-flashing content that conveys similar meaning or information.
