Question

Does every link in your site or application have text that describes the purpose of the link?

Why is this important?

Users need to be able to determine the purpose of a link based on the textual description. This is necessary so users can easily identify and navigate between links to access the information needed.

Whom does it benefit?

Example 1

As a person with cognitive disability,
I want to be able to easily identify the purpose of each link on a page
so that I can quickly and efficiently access the information I am looking for.

Example 2

As a person with a fine motor impairment,
I want to know where links lead using minimal movements
so that I can avoid extraneous and difficult movement in clicking on irrelevant links.

What should you do?

Ensure links have descriptive text.
Link text should be concise, clear, and meaningful.

How do you do it?

Review your content for links and confirm the text in each link has a concise, clear, and meaningful purpose, revise if necessary.
Remove vague link text such as “Click Here” and replace with meaningful link text.
